SEGUNDA OPORTUNIDAD
Psycho-educational assistance and comprehensive support programme in collaboration with ADAE, the Association for the Right to Education
The “Segunda oportunidad” programme, developed in partnership with the Association for the Right to Education (ADAE), plays a crucial role during periods when pupils are suspended from secondary schools (IES) in Seville. This project addresses an urgent need in particularly vulnerable areas, such as Tres Barrios, Torreblanca and La Macarena, where precarious living conditions and family breakdown often lead to problems with social behaviour and a lack of motivation at school.
A key feature of the programme is its close coordination with the education system: pupils are referred directly by counsellors at state schools to ADAE’s facilities upon their suspension. The aim is to prevent these interruptions from becoming a precursor to dropping out altogether, by turning the period of suspension into an opportunity for academic support and personal motivation.
Segunda Oportunidad implements a comprehensive programme centred on two key areas. On the one hand, it works with young people, tackling school drop-out rates through psycho-educational support and motivational tools that help them return to the classroom with a renewed attitude; and, on the other hand, it works with families, actively engaging with parents and guardians and offering them guidance and support in facing the challenges of parenting. The aim is to enhance the status of secondary education and rebuild the bond of commitment between families and their children’s academic success.
